Alan Moore's mark as a comics writer (Watchmen, From Hell, Lost Girls, etc. etc.) is so indelibly etched it's easy to overlook that, once upon a time, he was producing his fair share of comics illustration as well. This one appeared in a Godzilla portfolio published by Dark Horse in 1988, back when they were still working out what to do with the character, comics-wise (click to monsterize).
It's fascinating to see how the fastidious attention to narrative detail that so informs Moore's writing carries over into his visual work; the result here is a deft mash-up of horror, humor and voguish retro-kitsch.
